On a frosty Saturday morning in Victoria, the Pearkes Recreation Center was a hub of activity as TeenFest opened its doors to Teens and Tweens looking for a little excitement.  They were not disappointed.  Some came with anticipation, others with trepidation, but in the end, 200 climbers reached the top of the Rocktagon…… including Batman!

Many routes were set for those climbing for the first time, while the crux challenged the most serious climbers facing the wall.  Equipped with  Perfect Descent auto belays, Rocktagon climbers had a great opportunity to test their speed with safety,  retracting the climbers’ lanyard at 9 feet per second.  The auto belay takes up the slack as a climber ascends and safely controls the descent when the climber lets go or falls.

Special thanks to our Brentwood College School volunteers who shared their love of rock climbing for the entire day.  With safety at the fore, belayers Jacob, Antonio, Joe, and Brady were unmatched in their professionalism, enthusiasm and climbing prowess, while Mr. Lawrence provided guidance and oversite as the climbers prepared for the wall and was key to site setup and take down.  Also a big thank you to TeenFest Volunteer, Michelle, for helping us at the entry table to ensure our climbers were clear to go!

All in all, a fantastic event. Watch for more Rocktagon appearances in the near future!
