The EDELRID Ohm is an innovative, new solution for the problems experienced by climbing partners with a significant difference in weight. The OHM is an assisted-braking resistor. In the event of a fall, the OHM increases rope friction so that a lighter belayer can hold a heavier partner. The OHM still enables smooth paying out and taking in rope when climbing and belaying and has no negative affect on handling.The Ohm is sold as a system to maximize the performance of the device as well as to increase safety. A solution to add friction so a lighter climber can control the catch of a heavier climber. If you regularly belay someone who is heavier than you, and catching their falls tends to pulls you up and forward, the Ohm Braking Resistor means you need to apply significantly less hand braking force to arrest their fall, and you'll have more control when lowering too. Dynamically adds friction so catches are still soft.

Attaches with a draw to the first bolt or placement.
Reduces risk of ground fall if the leader falls at the first bolt.
Adds no additional friction when paying out rope.
Recommended weight difference between lead climber and belayer is 10 to 40kg.
Minimum weight for the belayer is 40kg.
For single ropes 8.6 - 11mm.
